Custom Pharma Seminars
Customized Pharmaceutical Seminars
Upon request American Glass Research can present various seminars regarding issues of most importance to our pharmaceutical customers. These seminars can be presented at our facility or yours. Any of these semiars can be customized to meet an individual customer requirement and therefore the seminars are quoted on an individual basis. Their descriptions follow:

3-Day Testing and Fracture Diagnosis of Glassware

Topics to be covered include:
Glass as a packaging material
Basic flaw types and their effect on strength
Usage and understanding of fracture surface markings
Fracture diagnosis skills
How applied loads stress the container
Evaluation of defects

The seminar includes lectures, demonstrations, and laboratory sessions for hands-on training. Attendees will be instructed in the use of, and encouraged to use microscopes in the examination of surface markings and defects. Some prior knowledge of glass manufacture and surface markings is beneficial but not essential.

1-Day Testing and Fracture Diagnosis of Glassware
This seminar is a condensed version of the 3-day seminar described above. It focuses on the following key points:

Glass as a packaging material
Flaws and their effect on glass strength
Basics of fracture diagnosis
Usage and understanding of fracture surface markings
Defect evaluation

There will be two demonstrations but the course is held without student microscope usage. It is intended for those interested in a basic understanding of glass but not requiring the hands-on training and fracture diagnosis skills offered in the 3 day session.

1-Day Defect Idenfication

Key topics covered include:

Glass strength and how it relates to flaws in the glass
The key identifying features of various flaw types
Examples of tubing and molded glass flaws
Proper handling techniques to minimize damage

A significant portion of the seminar is devoted to laboratory sessions in which the attendees will examine and identify tubing and molded glass defects. The examination is done without microscopes. The seminar is primarily intended for personnel such as inspectors and line personnel, who visually identify defects and judge their severity, but do not use fracture diagnosis skills.

2.5 hour Introduction to Glassware and Proper Handling

Key topics covered include:

Introduction to pharmaceutical glassware
Basic flaw types and their effect on strength
Evaluation of flaws
Proper Handling procedures to minimize damage

This seminar is suited for line personnel, QC personnel, or management with an interest in introductions to glass issues but not requiring the more involved training levels described above. It also serves as a thorough introduction for those planning to participate in the longer courses at a later time.
